ADHD: Common Traits and Behaviors

When we think of ADHD, many of us think about hyper-active children. However, ADHD affects many adults and doesn’t always manifest as hyperactivity (contrary to the name!) ADHD affects our executive functioning, which is basically the part of our brain that allows us to complete complex multi-step tasks, organize different tasks in order of importance, and manage our time. It also affects our emotional regulation, which is our ability to process our emotions in an effective way. ADHD can make it more challenging to complete everyday tasks, leading to general emotional overwhelm and feelings of shame. It can lead to more impulsivity and distractibility, making it difficult for people to stay on task even if they really want to. Learning more about the ways that ADHD can show up can help people get diagnosed and get help so they can lead their best lives.

This video was made by Pam Shaffer of Best Self Psych. It was produced as part of the 2019 Pineapple Summit, the adult industry’s only online mental health summit. The Pineapple Summit features top therapists and experts from around the globe, discussing different aspects of mental & physical health, therapy, and coping skills for adult industry performers.
